The Facilities Operations team is responsible for maintaining and optimizing the physical infrastructure to ensure operational continuity, safety, and efficiency. This role reports through facilities leadership and focuses on the resilience, capacity, and reliability of our central utility plants, HVAC systems, industrial piping, and process cooling/heating systems that power our advanced manufacturing and testing operations. </p> <h3>ABOUT THE JOB</h3> <p>We are looking for a Facilities Mechanical Engineer to support our rapidly growing Arsenal 1 campus. In this role, you will be the subject matter expert for the campus mechanical infrastructure, spanning from central utility plants (chilled water, heating hot water, cooling towers, boilers) down to building-level HVAC, compressed air, specialty exhaust, and process utilities. You will bridge the gap between design and operations by supporting new construction projects, leading mechanical and controls commissioning efforts, and managing robust preventive maintenance programs. </p> <h4>WHAT YOU’LL DO</h4> <ul> <li>Oversee the safe operation, reliability, and maintenance of the campus mechanical infrastructure, including central utility plants, chillers, cooling towers, boilers, air handling systems (AHUs, MAUs, RTUs), compressed air, process exhaust, and industrial piping networks.</li> <li>Develop, implement, and manage preventive and predictive maintenance programs for critical mechanical assets (e.g., vibration analysis, oil/fluid analysis, dynamic balancing, water treatment, and filter management).</li> <li>Provide engineering review and on-site support across the full lifecycle of campus construction projects (design review, submittals, RFIs, and punch walks) to ensure mechanical installations meet local codes, energy standards, and design intent.</li> <li>Lead the commissioning, startup, test and balance (TAB), and acceptance testing of critical mechanical equipment and Building Automation Systems (BAS/BMS).</li> <li>Conduct heating and cooling load studies, airflow/psychrometric analysis, and utility capacity planning to support dynamic, changing manufacturing and testing operations.</li> <li>Serve as a campus champion for mechanical, refrigerant, and pressure safety, supporting compliance with EPA Section 608, ASME codes, and mechanical Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.</li> <li>Optimize Building Automation Systems (BAS/BMS) sequences of operation to drive system resilience, operational efficiency, and environmental stability.</li> <li>Collaborate with municipal utility providers on natural gas, domestic water, and industrial wastewater services and compliance.</li> <li>Manage external mechanical contractors, TAB agencies, controls integrators, and engineering consultants during maintenance turnarounds, outages, and capital improvement projects.</li> </ul> <h4>REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS</h4> <ul> <li>Experience in mechanical engineering, facilities engineering, or building systems commissioning.</li> <li>Experience operating and troubleshooting central utility plants (chillers, boilers, cooling towers), industrial HVAC systems, compressed air, and process piping.</li> <li>Strong knowledge of mechanical maintenance practices, fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, psychrometrics, and testing standards.</li> <li>Familiarity with the construction lifecycle, including design reviews, submittals, RFIs, and on-site field engineering.</li> <li>Demonstrated experience commissioning critical mechanical systems, air/hydronic balancing, and Building Automation Systems (BAS/BMS).</li> <li>Thorough knowledge of relevant codes and standards, including International Mechanical Code (IMC), International Plumbing Code (IPC), ASHRAE standards (e.g., 90.1, 62.1, 55), ASME, and OSHA regulations.</li> <li>Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, P&amp;IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams), ductwork layouts, and controls Sequences of Operation (SOO).</li> <li>Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to coordinate complex utility shutdowns with minimal disruption to operations.</li> <li>Ability and willingness to handle emergencies and planned maintenance outages outside of normal working hours.</li> <li>Must be a U.S. Person due to required access to U.S. export-controlled information or facilities.</li> </ul> <h4>PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS</h4> <ul> <li>Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.</li> <li>Experience utilizing mechanical modeling and load calculation software (e.g., Trane TRACE, Carrier HAP, IES-VE, or AutoCAD/Revit MEP).</li> <li>Experience in high-availability or specialized environments such as aerospace facilities, cleanrooms/dry rooms, semiconductor fabs, data centers, or heavy manufacturing plants.</li> <li>Experience supporting mechanical and environmental requirements for secure spaces (SCIFs/SAPFs), including specialized acoustic, duct penetration, and RF attenuation standards.</li> </ul><div class="content-pay-transparency"><div class="pay-input"><div class="title">US Salary Range</div><div class="pay-range"><span>$86,000</span><span class="divider">&mdash;</span><span>$112,000 USD</span></div></div></div><div class="content-conclusion"><p><span data-contrast="auto">The salary range for this role is an estimate based on a wide range of compensation factors, inclusive of base salary only.
