As a Lead Avionics Engineer at Hermeus, you will play a pivotal role in leading the design, analysis, and testing of electrical systems for our hypersonic vehicles. You will collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team of engineers to ensure the safe and efficient operation of our electrical systems. This position offers a unique opportunity to work on groundbreaking technology in a fast-paced and collaborative environment. </p><h3>Responsibilities</h3> <li>Provide technical leadership across the organization, manage related risk and change across the program, drive new technology introduction, and provide mentoring for less senior engineers. </li> <li>Drive system trades, requirements capture, component selection, analysis, schematic capture, prototyping, bring-up, debugging, documentation, manufacturing, and test. </li> <li>Create development and qualification testing campaigns and exercise designs to their limits. </li> <li>Support hardware through production, integration, and flight. </li> <li>Work with experts from other teams and departments to drive changes that make the system more efficient, manufacturable, and reliable. Challenge assumptions and build strong professional relationships. </li> <h3>Requirements</h3> <li>Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering </li> <li>5+ years of experience in multiple of the following areas: electrical hardware design, control systems, instrumentation and signal conditioning, digital communication busses, analog design and simulation, power electronics, harness design </li> <li>1+ years leading a technical engineering team. </li> <h3>Preferred Skills and Experience: </h3> <li>Breadth of experience across various electrical technical fields including RF, digital, analog, and video systems </li> <li>Demonstrated project experience with embedded design, device integration, V&V, environmental qualification and/or flight testing </li> <li>Hands-on experience designing, building, and/or servicing electrical power distribution systems and/or networks </li> <li>Familiarity with test and simulation tools (DMM, Oscilloscope, power supplies, SPICE, Ansys) </li> <li>Experience with electrical and mechanical design and version control software (Altium Designer, Siemens NX, Teamcenter, Capital Harness, Git, Teamcenter) </li> <li>Experience with avionics devices and protocols (RS-485, ARINC-685, FPGAs, GPS, INS, D38999 style connectors, etc.) </li> <li>Strong analysis and troubleshooting skills </li> <li>Familiarity with aerospace industry standards (IPC-620, MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-704, MIL-HDBK-516C, MIL-STD-464D, DO-160G) </li> <li>Experience working with DC power systems (Batteries, Motors, Generators, etc.) </li> <li>Self-motivated with strong organizational, written, and oral communication skills </li> <li>Writing software in Python or similar for analysis or data review </li> <li>A bias towards action, and a willingness to work hands-on to make it happen </li> <li>Ability to travel on short notice to support test campaigns </li>
